Joshua to Fight Dubois for World Title at Wembley September

On September 21, Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois, both British, will compete for the IBF heavyweight championship at Wembley Stadium.

Oleksandr Usyk, the reigning champion, relinquished the title on Tuesday, making 26-year-old Dubois the new champion.

The 34-year-old two-time world champion Joshua has stopped three opponents in his last three fights to extend his winning run to four fights.

Dubois has won his last two fights, defeating Filip Hrgovic last month and Jarrell Miller in December to claim the title of interim champion.

In order to keep the undisputed title on the line for his rematch against Britain’s Tyson Fury on December 21, Usyk, a Ukrainian, first asked not to have the IBF belt revoked, but he then had second thoughts.

“Anthony and Daniel, I know the IBF title is important to you. It is my present to you on 21 September,” Usyk said in a video message on X.

In August, Dubois lost to Usyk in controversial fashion during his first attempt at a world title. In the fifth round, Dubois floored Usyk with a punch the referee deemed a low blow, ultimately leading to Dubois losing by stoppage in the ninth round.

Dubois has a record of 21 wins in 23 fights, while Joshua boasts 28 victories and three losses. Together, they have amassed 45 knockouts. This event will mark the first boxing match at Wembley since Fury’s victory over Dillian Whyte in December 2022.

Joshua will be making his fourth appearance at Wembley and his third as a headliner. In contrast, this will be Dubois’ first time headlining an event at a venue with a capacity exceeding 60,000.

The winner of this bout will position themselves as a prime contender to face the winner of the Usyk-Fury fight.
