French Coach Renard Wants N253 Million Per Month for Super Eagles Position
To appoint Herve Renard as the new Super Eagles coach, the NFF will have to use all of the money available to the Central Bank of Nigeria.
In addition to a number of other demands, the highly sought-after French coach has asked for a monthly compensation of $180,000 (about N253 million).
“Yeah, the NFF has contacted Renard regarding the Super Eagles position, but the biggest obstacle is that he is demanding a salary of $180,000 (a month), which in Naira is almost close to 300 million,” a senior official stated.
This will be the highest ever paid to a coach and the NFF just cannot afford this.
“This may well be a wild goose chase.”
Egypt has reportedly offered Renard $1.9 million, and his name is being considered for the new head coach of the United States national team.
The 54-year-old coach has already led Zambia and Côte d’Ivoire to victories in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
It is noteworthy that in order to keep his contract till the postponed AFCON in Côte d’Ivoire, former Super Eagles foreign coach Jose Peseiro had to accept a large wage decrease.
As the Super Eagles coach, Peseiro was paid $70,000 a month at first, but this was eventually cut to $50,000. He was still entitled to his pay for up to 13 months at a time, despite this reduction.
John Enoh, the minister of sports, has underlined that the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) is in charge of paying a foreign coach’s wage for the national team.
