Cricket brought to Borno IDP camps by NCF
After a three-day special intervention program, the Nigeria Cricket Federation presented the game to adults and children residing in various internally displaced person camps in Maiduguri, Borno State.
This is in response to NCF President Uyi Akpata’s pledge to contribute his allowances to the growth of the game in the Northeast during the NCF Annual General Meeting in Abuja in 2022.
The members of the cricket family visited several IDP camps in the area and offered food and relief supplies to them.
Secretary-general of the federation, Sani Mohammed, who represented Akpata on the occasion, stated, “This is a fulfillment of the promise made by the president as part of the federation’s plans to spread the game of cricket across the nooks and crannies of the country.
“This is a special case of interest for the NCF, where cricket has been used as a tool to bring social change while restoring the hopes of those who have been grievously affected by the insurgency in the North East of Nigeria.”
Children in the camps received the donations and also learned how to play cricket.
Also present during the event was the Chairman, Borno State Cricket Association, Usman Danjuma; board member representing the North East in the NCF, Musa Jamai; NCF National Development Manager (Northern Region), Joseph Onoja, and development officers.
